Hockenson has elite Tight End size at 6’5 and 251 lbs, has shown quick feet, speed and strength. Hockenson has shown great route running ability and has shown great acceleration/burst at the break point. He has elite softness in his hands when ensuring the catch and has shown the ability to catch the ball when wet during game time situations (PSU,2018). He also can find soft spots in defenses and is a nightmare in man-to-man coverage. Hockenson showcases elite blocking ability and is one of the best blocking tight ends in the draft.
As a very refined draft prospect, there are not many weaknesses to Hockenson’s game. The tight end should not be left to block quicker defensive ends in one-on-one situations. Hockenson can also improve when lunging to block as he has shown deficiencies with balance. Hockenson sometimes can telegraph his routes, making it easier for defenders to predict where he is going. Hockensons top end speed can also be an area of concern.
Hockenson is a threat when lining up anywhere on the field. He has shown great acceleration and is a mismatch against most linebackers and is stronger than a lot of defensive backs. He has shown great hands and is good at locating and targeting the football. Hockenson will be an asset with any team at the next level. I predict he will be drafted within the first and second rounds.
